Wilson County School District's Parent University provides tutorials, information, and resources to parents, caregivers, and learning coaches that will aid in engaging with their student’s learning throughout the 2023-2024 school year.

Technology Support

Wilson County Schools wants to ensure all students, families, and district personnel have the needed support to maintain effective levels of learning during the 2022-2023 school year.

Class Dojo is Springdale Elementary’s main school wide communication vessel. 

We utilize the free version. It is not necessary for you purchase Dojo unless you choose to have added home features.

Springdale parents will receive an email invitation and/or send home a paper invitation including directions.

Wilson Bank and Trust encourages all students to not miss school banking and benefits of the Wilson Bank and Trust programs.

From WBT: Saving money is a hands-on lesson children can learn at school, thanks to our School Bank program.  Every few weeks, our local bankers visit elementary and middle schools throughout Middle Tennessee to accept deposits and open savings accounts at on-site bank windows. Our goal is to help students develop a habit for saving, and kids are rewarded for adding to their accounts consistently — no matter the amount.

Please visit any WBT branch to register.

Student emergency cards are used for the following reasons:

• Medical Emergency
• Power Outage (Skyward)
• School Evacuation
• Social Media and Club Permissions
• Student Pick-up verification

Please contact the office if changes need to be to the emergency card. Parents are encouraged to make updates to their child’s information via Skyward.

Please return the orange emergency card to your child's teacher as soon as possible.

Springdale allows limited outside food items for students for special occasions, school celebrations, and school events.  

Parents will be notified via Dojo if goodie bags are being sent home to review all contents in the bag with their child. Any items brought for students will be dispersed at the end of the school day.  
If food items are used during the school for special events, the nutritional label and ingredient list will be shared with parents prior to the events.  

With the growing number of food allergies and other dietary restrictions, non-food items are strongly encouraged.

DO’s

  • Hard candy
  • Lollipops

DON’Ts

• Cupcakes, cookies, etc. to share with class.
• Chocolate, caramel (easy melt items)
• Individually wrapped chocolate-type cookies (i.e. chocolate chip, Little Debbie Swiss Rolls, etc.)
• Chewing Gum

In an effort to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our Springdale Panthers, limited outside food items are allowed into the school environment (i.e. birthday cupcakes).  With the growing number of food allergies and other dietary restrictions, this places a great deal of responsibility on school personnel to monitor outside food entering our school.  

Due to the increasing rates of childhood allergies, Wilson County School District is committed to reducing student and staff exposure to food, skin, and respiratory allergens. 

Students are only permitted to bring an individual snack to school daily. If your child forgets a snack, Cheerios will be given to your child.  Your child’s teacher will send home a letter to notify you.   If you need assistance, please contact our school counselor, Shane Wolfe.

Springdale Elementary is “nut-aware” and a latex-free school.

Medications

• Any medications must be brought to Nurse Michelle in its sealed, original packaging with the completed medication form.
• Students are not allowed to possess medicines such as over the counter cough drops, cough syrup, Tylenol, etc.
• Students are not allowed to keep medication in their possession unless approved by a physician and Nurse Michelle (i.e. inhaler, epi-pen, etc.).

Nut Allergies:

• Students can bring an individual snack daily.
• If a classroom is noted having nut allergies, we ask that you send a nut-free snack with your child. Teachers will notify you of this request.

Food is not to be shared with others.

• Please ring the doorbell and wait to be acknowledged by office personnel.
• Please state your reason for visit.
• You will gain entrance into the building.

In order to ensure that food and health guidelines are followed, we strongly encourage that you not drop off fast food for your child.  However, if the item is time sensitive, please let the office know so it can be deliver in a timely manner. 

Lunchboxes, extra clothing, and other school items are always welcome. All items will be delivered to your child.

• Off-site Daycares will pick up students at dismissal in front of the school starting at 2:30PM.
• It is the responsibility of the parent to communicate to the correct daycare provider whether or not the child will be attending after-school daycare.
• It is the responsibility of the daycare to take attendance before departing from Springdale Elementary.
• Daycares are to contact the parent if there are any discrepancies in communication.
• Springdale staff will escort students to their corresponding daycare vehicles.
• Parents are required to write their child’s mean of transportation for dismissal in the agenda on a daily basis.

Car riders need to use the east entrance. 
Please follow the dotted blue lines for both entrance and exit.

• K-5 cars should not line up before 2:10 pm due to Pre-K dismissal times
• Dismissal is 2:30 pm

Buses will enter the west drive (marked in red). Buses leave campus at 2:33 pm daily!

Front Parking Lot:
No cars are allowed to enter, park, or leave from 
7:00-7:10 am or 2:20-2:40 pm while buses are present!

Drop-off and Pick-up Route

The green line represents the Pre-K car rider line.

This green line is for students in the following classes:

• Current
• Dickau
• CDC
• Rumpf

Please stay in the far right lane upon entering the school.

Car Riders are located in the back of the school.

• Springdale families are issued two (2) car rider tags to use for the 23.24 school year.
• All cars must remain in “park” when in the Safety Zone.
• Cell phone usage is prohibited while in a school zone (TCA 55-8-207).
• Parents are to remain in their vehicles at all times.

Arrival

• Students should be unbuckled and ready to exit their vehicle when in the Safety Zone.
• Students are to wait for the signal from Springdale staff to exit their cars.
• Students will follow the safety guidance of our Springdale staff.
  • “Driver side back seat student riders” should walk to the front of their car to cross in front of their driver
• If your child forgot an item in the car, please drop the item off in our front office.
  • Do not call students back to the car after they have exited to the sidewalk!

Dismissal

• Students will not be permitted into an adult’s car without a school-assigned car tag.
• If the assigned car tag is not present during pick-up, the adult will be asked to park in front of the school, walk into the safety vestibule, and show proper identification before a child is released to that adult.

As part of Wilson County’s bus procedures, students will be issued a colored bus tag for their assigned bus. 

Light blue tags are also distributed to kindergarten students to identify them easily to ensure they are given extra special care when getting on and off the bus.

Students may not ride another bus that is not their regular assigned bus except in emergency circumstances and such deviation must be approved by a school administrator and may not cause bus to be overcrowded.

Buses are located in the front of the school for both morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.

• Please do not park in the front parking lot between 7:00 am-7:10 am and 2:20 pm-2:40 pm.
  • If you need an early dismissal or if you have a scheduled appointment, please use the east side lot for easy departure. Otherwise, you will be asked to wait until our buses are clear.

Students are to either ride the bus 
OR 
use the car-rider line located behind the school.

If you are parking on the east side of the building in the morning and walking your child to the corner, you are preventing staff from being able to park as well as adding to traffic concerns. Please consider using the carline.

Safety first!

All transportation changes need to be documented in your child’s agenda book daily.
Only in an emergency will calls to the office be permitted.

• Make writing your child’s transportation in the agenda as part of your nightly routine.
• Review your child’s afternoon transportation before leaving the house every morning.
• Springdale teachers will check each child’s agenda every morning as part of their morning procedure to note your child’s transportation.

We discourage transportation changes communicated to teachers using ClassDojo or email due to teacher absences or emergency leave.

All visitors must report to the main office to sign in and receive a visitor’s badge.  All visitors will be required to show a valid ID.  Visitor Badges must be worn and visible at all times.

Lunch Visitors: Due to our rising student enrollment (800+) and cafeteria seating capacity of 288 patrons, we are only able to accommodate 8 lunch visitors during lunch hours (subject to change).

Lunch visitors are to use the Sign-Up Genius to secure a seat.

Visitors: In order to protect instructional time, please schedule an appointment to see your child’s teacher, school counselor, or administration.  

Volunteers: Parents are encouraged to volunteer at Springdale Elementary and to actively participate in their child’s education (tutoring, field trips, book fairs, special events, etc.).

• School-level Volunteers: Raptor (office only)
• Chaperones: Field Trip chaperones will need to pass a background check ($5 fee) and complete necessary paperwork through Wilson County.

Per the USDA, Wilson County Schools will return to traditional serving for the 2022-23 year. It is highly encouraged for those who normally qualify for free and reduced meals to go online and fill out an online application or fill out a paper application that you can receive from your child's school. Online and paper applications are available by visiting Free & Reduced Meals 2023-2024. (Spanish and Arabic paper packets are available).

All students who do not complete an application and qualify for free and reduced lunch will pay full price for meals.

Parents have the ability to pay for their child’s cafeteria account online using School Café.

School Café gives parents many benefits:

• Prepay for your child’s meals by using Visa or MasterCard
• Website available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• View account balances and student purchase history
• Receive email notice when account balance is low
• 5% convenience fee per transaction

Parents can also make restrictions to their child’s lunch account.

Cafeteria Payments

Students have the option to deliver cafeteria payments to the cafeteria dropbox located at the register in the cafeteria between 7:00am-7:25am. Please make sure the envelope/bag has the following information:

• Student Name
• Teacher
• Amount Enclosed

School Café is a preferred method of payment.

Teachers will notify parents of their child’s assigned lunch time and location.

School Cash Online* a way for parents to make school donations, pay for fees, fundraisers, and many other school items.
School Cash Online is our preferred method of payment for processing orders to eliminate handling cash.

Any school purchase or payment must be for the exact amount.  Change is not available. The only exception is form reakfast or lunch.

School Cash Online is a web-based program that integrates online payment options for parents with our offices’ school level accounting. School Cash Online can help manage school funds more efficiently, which allows administration, teachers, and staff to spend more time in the classroom.

It is the responsibility of every student and employee to exhibit honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility in academic work at all times to support a positive learning environment in the school.

Academic dishonesty is the failure to maintain academic integrity. 

Academic dishonesty includes but is not limited to: cheating; doing work for another student; parents completing student assignments, presenting another student’s work as one’s own; and plagiarism.

To help all stakeholders in this process, we have created the following definitions of Academic Dishonesty that outlines those actions that do not align with Be a panther!

Written documentation of a child’s absence must be submitted or emailed to Gretchen Hurley, or uploaded to Skyward within three (3) school calendar days.

After the three (3) days has elapsed, the absences are permanently marked unexcused.
DOJO messages will not be accepted as a written excuse.

Five (5) or more unexcused absences within an entire school year will be reported to the District’s Attendance Supervisor. Please review the student handbook for excused absences.

Any missed time from school, including tardies and early dismissals, can be added towards unexcused absences which will go towards truancy charges.

Written documentation of a child’s absence must include the following:

• Reason for Absence
• Date
• Time of Absence
• Parent Signature
• Phone Number

Students in grades K-5 are issued a Wilson County Chromebook.

Please review the 22.23 Student Device Agreement.

In the agreement, please do the following:

• Read the Acceptable Use Policy.
• Discuss the AUP with your child.
• Discuss the Student Device Agreement with your child.

This agreement is signed electronically before a device is checked out to your child.
